Second Collection this Sunday – Lepra
This year, the Catholic charity which works with those suffering from leprosy, Lebra, celebrates its centenary. In January, Bishop Declan Lang celebrated a Mass of thanksgiving for the work of Lebra at Westminster Cathedral. To mark its 100 years, Lebra is working with the parishes of England and Wales to raise even more funds to support those who are suffering from leprosy.
It is sometimes hard for us to realise that every day 600 or more people will be diagnosed with leprosy. Of these 600, 50 will be children. Experts believes that currently over 3 million people across the globe are living with undiagnosed leprosy. It is so important for us to remember that Leprosy is not a disease of the past, but that it still exists and is still destroying lives today.
In the last 100 years Lebra has supported research and innovative care which has enabled it to find new treatments to break the cycle of physical, social, economic, and psychological harm associated with leprosy and lymphatic filariasis. The kindness and generosity of Catholics in the UK is still needed to help Lebra to continue to detect and treat over 35,000 vulnerable people every year and reach over 2.4 million people with vital health information and education.
Lebra invites you to learn more about its vital work by watching this video - .
Please be generous in response to this vital work.
