Repairs and Redecorations at St. Teilo’s

Webmaster • August 26, 2023

The Archdiocesan Trustees have supported Canon John and the Parish Finance Committee in their proposal to undertake repair and enhancement works at St. Teilo’s.

Approval has been received for four projects which will be undertaken over the next few months:

a) Repairs and redecoration of the external concrete walls which are suffering from steel reinforcement failure,

b) Creation of a ladder and safety walkway access system to enable access to the Church roof for repairs and maintenance

c) New Lighting for the Church

and

d) Internal Redecoration of the Church and Parish Hall

These are the first major works in the Church since the re-ordering of the Sanctuary and addition of the Parish Hall which took place 18 years ago. Over coming weeks we will explore fundraising approaches to cover the costs of these works.

Please note: Due to the works and Canon’s holiday St. Teilo’s will be closed on weekdays from August Bank Holiday until the end of September. There will be no weekday Masses in the Parish during this time. Weekend Masses will continue as usual.

Car Parking at St. Teilo’s on Sunday

Due to the scaffolding now in place, it will not be possible to use the Church Car Park at St. Teilo’s. If you do need to bring a car to Church, please make use of the public car parks behind Victoria Road (access off Penlline Road) or behind the shops on Merthyr Road.

Clothes donations for the SVP The Parish St. Vincent De Paul (SVP) Conference undertakes a monthly collection of clothing for the SVP Charity Shop. Clean, good quality clothing, books and toys are welcome. Donations may be left outside the confessionals at the rear of St. Teilo’s this weekend, July 13th, and on the weekend of the Second Sunday of each month. Please ensure that donations are brought to the Church only on the specified Sundays, as we do not want the Church to become cluttered during the week. – Thank you from the parish SVP.

Seafarers and fishers play a vital role in all of our lives, but they often work in difficult, hazardous conditions. The number of crews abandoned by their employers is still at a record high. Conflicts around the world are compromising seafarers’ safety, and many are experiencing stress and poorer mental health. Stella Maris (formerly known as the Apostleship of the Sea) is the maritime agency of the Catholic Church. Its teams of chaplains provide practical help and pastoral care to seafarers and fishers in the UK and around the world. Please stand alongside seafarers and fishers so that they will always have a friend in port to whom they can turn. Please also pray for seafarers and give to the collection at Mass. You are also able to donate using a debit or credit card at the Electronic Donation Station at the back of St. Teilo’s or at this address – https://donate.mydona.com/st-teilo-our-lady-of-lourdes

Archbishop Mark will celebrate the 10am Mass at St. Teilo’s next Sunday and celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation with the Parish candidates. Please keep them in your prayers as they experience the coming of the Holy Spirit in their lives in a new way. Refreshments will be served in St. Teilo’s Hall after the Confirmation Mass. We hope Parishioners will come and celebrate with those being confirmed and also meet the Archbishop.
