Second Sunday of Advent

Today we begin the second week of Advent, looking towards the coming of the Lord at Christmas, and his Second Coming at the end of Time.

Today the Gospel focuses on John the Baptist, who comes to prepare the way for our Saviour. St Luke is very specific about where and when these events took place, reminding us that the Gospel is not a legend but the account of a true story, that Jesus of Nazareth is a historical figure who fits into this precise context. God’s word is proclaimed to prepare for the coming of the one who is the Word made Flesh.
