St. Teilo’s Golden Jubilee Celebrations
St. Teilo’s Golden Jubilee week of celebrations have concluded, and what a memorable week it turned out to be, even the sun shone all week!
For the entire week, St. Teilo took a place of honour in the church, with his statue just in front of the sanctuary. All the celebrations were linked around the statue of St. Teilo, our Patron Saint, whose faith and love of the Church serves as an example to us.
We give thanks that our Catholic Faith remains strong as we pass it on to our children and young people.
During the week we said our special prayer of dedication to St. Teilo. We asked that through his intercession God bless our church, our wider parish, our Archdiocese and the Church and that we give witness to Jesus Christ our Saviour.
During this week the church was adorned with beautiful flower displays, put together by our hardworking and exceptionally talented team of flower arrangers. Out sincere thanks to them.
Local churches and schools have also provided arrangements. All of these pictures, can be found in our Facebook album.
A photographic exhibition was created and put on display in the church hall, which shows many of the main events from St. Teilo’s in the last fifty years (and from before too).
The official week of celebrations began with a Musical Celebration held on Saturday 14th June.
Thanks to all our performers. What a wonderfully talented parish we have and thanks for helping us kick off our special celebratory week in fine style!
An Ecumenical Service of Celebration and Thanksgiving was held on Monday 16th June at 12.00pm. Joining us for the celebration were clergy and Ministers from the other Christian denominations in the surrounding area. Some people from these congregations also attended the service which featured prayers, readings and some rousing hymn singing. Some pictures can be found here.
The highlight of the week, the actual anniversary day Mass of Celebration and Thanksgiving was held on Wednesday 18th June at 11.00am, with a buffet lunch to follow to which all parishioners and visitors are welcome. A piece on that celebration can be found here.
On Thursday 19th June we gave thanks to God for all His blessings with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the afternoon.
Our parish barbecue was well attended on the evening of Friday 20th June, as was the anniversary cream tea on Saturday 21st June. Pictures from the barbecue can be found here and from the cream tea party here.
We concluded a memorable week of celebrations on Sunday 22th June. The Abbot of Belmont, the Rt. Rev. Paul Stonham, presided at the 9.00am and 11.00am Masses. Abbot Paul gave an informative and humorous homily about St. Teilo and the early Celtic saints, focusing on their efforts to build up the faith in Wales and their loyalty to the Holy See and the Pope.
At the Masses current and former Altar Servers were honoured for their dedication to the parish and loyal service to the Church.
As it was also the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi), the Masses concluded with a procession of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction.
Pictures from the 11.00am Mass can be found here.
Of course, many people were involved in the planning and organising of the various events and Fr. Isaac thanked them for their hard work and dedication in ensuring things went to plan:
“As the dust settles on an extraordinary week for St. Teilo's, and indeed for the whole parish, I would like to thank all those who contributed to a memorable week of Golden Jubilee celebrations. A great deal of hard work was involved but the results were well worth it. Even the weather was perfect for the entire week!”
All the pictures from the week of celebrations can also be found on the parish Flickr account. More pictures will be added soon.
